This business initiative arises as a result of the specialized knowledge and research results of the LIM staff. His entrepreneurial project was born with the main objective of transferring academic knowledge to society in the form of innovative products, services and personalized projects, all linked to the biomechanics of human movement.

A PROJECT TO HELP PEOPLE

Promoted by the researchers Florian Michaud, Urbano Lugrís and Javier Cuadrado, under the initiative of the entrepreneurial engineer Alejandro Vázquez, MFES represents a significant milestone in the trajectory of the LIM. It makes it possible to convert the research results obtained in the field of biomechanics of human movement into practical applications for society. The mission of the MFES spin-off is to improve people’s quality of life by developing customized solutions. Their efforts focus on a wide variety of areas that include healthcare, sports, labor, and automotive, among others.

WORK LINES

The main areas of specialization of MFES are these:

Registration and assessment of gait and other human movements.

Modeling and simulation of the musculoskeletal system.

Sensing applications for biomechanical analyses.

Design and evaluation of devices for assistance and exercise.

The spin-off makes its research experience available to the health industry and companies linked to the sports and health sectors. It offers advanced human motion capture technology services with the added value of providing real-time biofeedback to whoever is using or monitoring the therapeutic treatment. And while MFES specializes in the biomechanics of human movement, it also offers services aimed at capturing and analyzing animal movement to facilitate the application and development of therapeutic solutions in the field of veterinary trauma.

The LIM subsidiary is committed to the diversification of services with the aim of expanding its business area to other areas, such as the entertainment sector (capture of human movement for application in video games), the labor sector (work ergonomics studies) or the insurance sector (forensic analysis), among others.

With the strategic support of UDC’s Office of Transfer of Research Results (OTRI), Motion and Force Engineering Solutions, from the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory, stands as a key bridge between academia and society.

The launch of MFES represents a new chapter in LIM and CITENI’s commitment to innovation and technological development. The spin-off is available for inquiries, proposals and collaborations on the website https://mfes.es/.

AN EXPERIENCED RESEARCH TEAM

The members of MFES are part of an experienced and committed team, whose research trajectory demonstrates a deep knowledge of the field of mechanical engineering. They have successfully carried out numerous high-profile projects, with public and private funding, demonstrating their ability to tackle complex challenges with creativity and resource efficiency, as well as to transfer their knowledge to the business fabric.

Alejandro Vázquez (founder)

Graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 2014 and Master in Industrial Engineering in 2016 from the UDC. He worked at the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory in a research project funded by Tecnalia Research & Innovation. In 2017, he became part of this research center to collaborate in the management and development of state and European projects linked to the automotive industry. In 2018, he moved to Capgemini Engineering (formerly Altran), from where he worked for Constructions and Auxiliar de Ferrocarrís (CAF) managing world-class railway projects. His career focuses on the development, management of industrial projects, entrepreneurship and the creation of business models for technological projects. He participated in programs such as Addventure (UDC) or UPM2T (University of Madrid, UPM). In 2022 he started his first project as an independent entrepreneur: FIGA CrossFit.

Florian Michaud (co-founder)

Engineer since 2014 in the specialties of Mechanics and Ergonomics from the University of Belfort-Montbeliard (France). His final work focused on the design of instrumentation for orthopedic surgery that he carried out at the French company Onefit Medical. In the same year, he joined the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory of the UDC, to work in the field of biomechanics of human movement, thanks to a state scholarship. In 2018, he completed a pre-doctoral stay at Rice University, in Houston, in the United States. In 2020 he obtained his doctorate and his work was awarded as the best doctoral thesis by the Chair of Sports Traumatology UDC-HM. From 2022, he enjoys a “Research Talent” grant from the Industrial Campus of the UDC to carry out his own research, related to knee modeling for total knee arthroplasty, research that he carries out in collaboration with the French company Pixee Medical.

Urbano Lugrís (co-founder)

University professor at the UDC within the area of Mechanical Engineering. After his time at the consulting company Norcontrol, SA, in 2004 he joined the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory (LIM). PhD in Dynamics of Flexible Multibody Systems in 2008, since then he has specialized in the capture, analysis and simulation of human movement.

Javier Cuadrado (co-founder)

Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the UDC, in 2002 he founded the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory (LIM) research group, specialized in the dynamics of multibody systems and their applications.
