Ferrol, 26th February 2024.- A real challenge proposed by Navantia and 24 hours to find an innovative solution. This is the challenge faced by the 55 engineering students from the University School of Industrial Design (EUDI) and the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Ferrol (EPEF) and the five junior engineers from Navantia who were selected to participate in the third edition of the Hackathon Navantia Next Pioneers, which will begin this Thursday, 29 February, at 15:00 hours, at the Industrial Campus of Ferrol.
Among the group of students from the University of A Coruña selected to participate in this third edition of the Navantia Next Pioneers Hackathon are students from the final years of the Degree in Industrial Design and Product Development, a degree taught at the University School of Industrial Design (EUDI), and the Degree in Mechanical Engineering, the programme of Simultaneity of the Degree in Mechanical Engineering and the Degree in Naval and Oceanic Engineering, the Master in Industrial Informatics and Robotics, the Master in Energy Efficiency and Sustainability as well as the Erasmus Mundus Master in Sustainability and Industry 4. 0 applied to the Maritime Sector (SEAS 4.0), all of them studies linked to the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Ferrol (EPEF).
The event is presented as a unique opportunity to innovate, create, learn, collaborate and demonstrate talent. Navantia and the Industrial Campus of the University of A Coruña, in collaboration with the University School of Industrial Design (EUDI) and the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Ferrol (EPEF), present a space in which to experiment with digital transformation and SmartTech. Throughout the 24 hours that this hackathon lasts, the participants, divided into small teams of no more than five people, will be supported by professionals from the naval and engineering sectors to achieve the solution to the proposed challenge.
At the same time, the participants will receive two motivational talks with the aim of encouraging them to continue working against the clock in search of an innovative solution. The first of these, scheduled for Thursday 29 February at 20:30, will be given via Teams by Navantia’s commercial manager for Europe, Alfonso Valea González. The second will take place on Friday 1st March, at 8:30 a.m., and will be given by María Teresa Galdo Aldrey, head of University Relations and member of the Human Resources Department at Navantia.
The jury will be made up of professionals appointed by Navantia, by the University School of Industrial Design (EUDI) and by the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Ferrol (EPEF). As stated in the rules of the Hackathon Navantia Next Pioneers, this jury will assess, among others, the degree of appropriateness and impact of the solution to the problem, the degree of creativity and innovation of the idea, its technical and economic viability, as well as the quality and clarity of its presentation. The members of the winning team will receive a one-year training grant at Navantia.
