Ferrol, March 15th, 2024.- On Wednesday, March 20th, at 18:00 hours, the conference “The power of data. Applications in Land, Sea, Air and Space” given by the Professor of Statistics and Operations Research of the University of A Coruña, Salvador Naya, within the framework of the Cosme Álvarez de los Ríos Chair directed by the lecturer of the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Ferrol (EPEF), Ana Álvarez, together with the project manager of Navantia Seanergies, Fernando Lago.
As explained by Salvador Naya, professor at the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Ferrol (EPEF) and researcher at the Modelling, Optimisation and Statistical Inference Group (MODES) linked to the Centre for Research in Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC) of the Campus of A Coruña, in his speech he will try to show how, throughout history, the study of data marked the beginning of statistics, the science that allows us to extract its real value.
Similarly, he will also delve into the fraudulent use of this data and the risks that this brings with it, referring, for example, to the use of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) models or to all the problems derived from the use of this data in manipulated images or videos. Finally, he will expose the main results of some of the projects in which he has collaborated in recent years in the fields of aeronautics, energy efficiency and shipbuilding.
The conference can be followed, in person, in the Concepción Arenal Assembly Hall of the Ferrol Industrial Campus until full capacity is reached, and online, through the website www.catedracosmealvarez.com.
