The Greenalia-UDC Chair of Energetic Transition organises the forum “Professional profiles in the energy value chain”.

A Coruña, 14th of March 2024.- In a context of global development of the different renewable technologies, the demand for new job profiles and new industrial qualifications is growing. A growth that is estimated both by the promoters and technologists and by other companies that form part of the value chain (from assemblies, logistics, design…) where the components of technological innovation and dixitalisation play an important role.

On Tuesday 12th of March, under the title “Professional profiles in the energy value chain”, in the forum organised by the Greenalia UDC Chair for Energy Transition in Ferrol, the new job opportunities that are opening up in the field of decarbonisation and energy transition were highlighted.

The forum, inaugurated by the vice-rector of the Ferrol Campus, Ana Isabel Ares Pernas; and the director of the Campus, Marcos Míguez; was led by Lisa Castedo, head of personnel at Nervión Naval Offshore/Grupo AMPER; Sergio Rodríguez, CEO of SERTOGAL; Rosario López, head of training at ASIME; and Gonzalo Castañeira, CHRO of Greenalia. After their speeches, a dialogue moderated by Fernando de Llano, director of the Greenalia-UDC Chair, will take place.

There was agreement that one of the great challenges is to tackle the transition from both sides, training and employment, especially at a time when companies are facing an increasingly changing reality.

“We are in the right place at the right time”, highlighted Rosario López, from Asime, referring to the important opportunities that are opening up with the offshore industry and the rest of the renewable technologies. “It is a field in which we see the greatest demand for specialists in electrical networks in wind farms, experts in dixitalisation processes, specialists in green finance and sustainability, design engineers, technicians in renewable energy projects”, explained the head of training at Asime.

These technical profiles are also sought after by engineering firms, as Sergio Rodríguez, CEO of Sertogal, detailed, who highlighted the opportunities that are opening up in this field, given the development of projects in different technologies such as green hydroxene and offshore.

Another point of agreement was the relevance of today’s brand competencies, the skills and attitudes of each person in the workplace, as well as analytical and critical thinking, in addition to having a good curriculum. In this sense, Gonzalo Castañeira, CHRO of Greenalia, urged the students present to play a more active role as protagonists of the future and its design. And, in this context, he explained that companies with a purpose, such as renewables companies, which play a key role in the fight against climate change, are called upon to boost talent even more.

Finally, Lisa Castedo, from Nervión, addressed the importance of choosing students, so that learning is bidirectional and that supply and demand can be matched. In this sense, he underlined the need for specialists in welding, boilermaking, loxistics and engineering. These are profiles that, as far as possible, we try to cover with Galician talent, for which we have internship programmes.

In this sense, the participants valued the opportunity for Galicia that the new energy projects represent, as they allow new talent to develop their working life here and create value in the territory.

About the Chair

The company Greenalia and the UDC (University of A Coruña) are promoting the Chair of Energy Transition, an initiative that aims to transfer knowledge about the impact of climate change, the decarbonisation process and the energy transition, with special attention to its effects in the Autonomous Community of Galicia.
