The three specialisation campuses of the Galician University System explore ways of collaboration

Ferrol, 20th of March 2024 – The campus of Ourense hosted on Friday 15th March the first meeting between the heads of the three specialisation campuses of the Galician University System (SUG) accredited by the Xunta de Galicia. These are the Industrial Campus of Ferrol, of the University of A Coruña; the Terra Campus of Lugo, of the University of Santiago de Compostela; and the Auga Campus of Ourense, of the University of Vigo.

The meeting was attended by Francisco Javier Rodríguez, vice-rector of the Ourense Campus; Roberto Ignacio Fernández, director of the Auga Campus; Ana Isabel Ares, vice-rector of the Ferrol Campus and Social Responsibility of the University of A Coruña; Marcos Míguez, director of the Ferrol Industrial Campus; María Elvira López, delegate of the rector for the Terra Campus, and technicians and technicians of the respective specialisation projects.

This first meeting took place in Ourense, as it is the most recently accredited campus, last February. For this reason, it began with a presentation of the Auga Campus, in which its evolution and main characteristics were explained. After this introduction, managers and technical staff exchanged information about the respective specialisation campuses and discussed the need to establish lines of cooperation and collaboration between them.

The meeting was supported by the Xunta de Galicia, through the Regional Ministry of Culture, Education, Vocational Training and Universities, which showed its firm commitment to this joint collaboration between the three specialisation campuses, as it will enable the promotion of synergies and strategic actions in the field of research. Thus, this cooperation will directly benefit the strengthening of the structures of non-central campuses, taking advantage of their potential and making them more competitive and specialised. Precisely with this objective in mind, in 2013 the Galician government launched the Specialisation Programme of the Galician University System Campuses and the awarding of the specialisation accreditation, the seal of excellence that recognises them as such.

Heads of the three specialisation campuses of the Galician University System (SUG), the Industrial Campus of Ferrol, from the University of A Coruña; the Terra Campus of Lugo, from the University of Santiago de Compostela; and the Auga Campus of Ourense, from the University of Vigo; met on 15 March to explore new ways of collaboration.
