The Bonito-Bot team of IES Perdouro de Burela wins the III Robotics Olympics of the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Ferrol.

Ferrol, April 12th, 2024. The team Bonito-Bot, integrated by the students of 1º of BACH of the IES Perdouro de Burela Hugo Gorgojo, Gabriela Chumacero, Iago Ramos, Lucas Casal, Candela Fernández and Cayetana Trelles, has just won the Grand Prize Final of the III Robotics Olympiad that took place this Friday 12th of April, between 09: 30 e as 14:00 hours, in the covered pavilion of the Center of Infantile and Primary Education of Esteiro, of the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Ferrol (EPEF) and the Industrial Campus of the University of A Coruña.

Throughout the morning, the participating students, more than 100 secondary and high school students from the provinces of Coruña and Lugo, had to overcome three challenges: an obstacle course, the “Barrendeiro” test and a sumo competition. In the line following, the robot had to follow a printed trajectory and overcome the obstacles that got in its way. In the “Sweeper” test, the students had to use algorithms similar to those used by hoovers or lawn mowers to sweep all the objects on the board. Finally, in the sumo competition, the teams measured their strength in a head-to-head battle in which they had to expel the opposing robot from the game board.

A total of 26 teams took part in this III Robotics Olympics, made up of secondary and high school students from Colegio Plurilingüe Compañía de María and IES Salvador de Madariaga in Coruña, IES Saturnino Montojo, Colexio Tirso de Molina and Colexio Cristo Rey in Ferrol, CPR Plurilingüe Nuestra Señora del Carmen La Grande Obra de Atocha in Betanzos and IES Perdouro in Burela.

The award was presented by Ana Ares Pernas, vice-rector of the Ferrol Campus and Social Responsibility.
