Characterised as a “singular building” by Turismo de Galicia, the building known as Casa del Patín is a residential building from 1750 refurbished by the City Council of Ferrol and the University of A Coruña for use as a University Library.

Its eventful history is linked to the disappearance of the old neighbourhood of Esteiro. Its construction, completely ruined in the seventies of the twentieth century, was nevertheless maintained for years in which they were assigned very different uses.
In 1996 the mayor of Ferrol and the rector of the University of A Coruña ratified its incorporation to the university complex of Esteiro.
