Ferrol, 20th of March 2024. The vice-rector of the Ferrol Campus and Social Responsibility, Ana Ares Pernas; the deputy mayor of the City Council of Ferrol, Javier Díaz Mosquera; the president of the Official College of Chiropodists of Galicia (COPOGA), Ana Requeijo Constenla; the vice-dean of the Faculty of Nursing and Podiatry, Pedro Gil Manso; and the president of the Organizing Committee of the XII Congress of Podiatry Students of Galicia and student of the 4th year of the Degree in Podiatry of the University of A Coruña, Lois Vázquez Campos; inaugurate tomorrow, Thursday, March 21, at 09: 00 hours, in the Auditorium Concepción Arenal of the Industrial Campus of Ferrol, a two-day congress with the participation of more than 150 students of Podoloxy from Galicia and Castilla e León.
The first conference of the congress, scheduled for tomorrow at 10:00 am, will be given by the founding member of the Spanish Society of Biomechanics and Orthopaedics (SEBIOR), José Manuel Castillo Pérez, who will talk about the proprioceptive and mechanical effects on children’s podiatric pathology and gait disorders. Next, at 10:50 a.m., Pablo Bernardo Freire, an expert in MSK ultrasound on foot and neck from the CEU San Pablo University in Madrid, will speak.
After a short break, at 12:30 p.m., the director of the PEU Clínica de Podología located in Denia (Alicante), Eugeni Llorca Bordes, will talk about the main orthotic problems in the treatment of children’s flat feet. The last conference of the morning will take place at 13:10 and will be given by the creator and CEO of Brain4Feet, Sergi Prades Valls, who will explain in detail the use of ultrasound in the field of podiatry. In the afternoon, the students registered in the congress will participate in several theoretical and practical workshops.
The conference on Thursday 22 March will begin at 10:00 am with a talk by Esteban Juan García Agra, a graduate in Podology from the University of A Coruña and active member of the Spanish Society of Criminology and Forensic Sciences, who will give an introduction to forensic podology. Throughout the morning will also speak the podiatrist and graduated in Football Medicine by FIFA, Carlos Virosta Vela; the official podiatrist of Pescados Rubén Burela FS Masculino and Feminino, Miguel Ángel Murias Carrasco; as well as the podiatrist and member of the NGO Healing the Children, Patricio Serqueira Keenehan.
In the afternoon, the congress programme includes the interventions of Raquel Veiga Seijo, podiatrist, nurse and PhD in Health Sciences from the University of A Coruña; Alba María López Armesto and Miguel López Vigil, two professors of the Degree in Podiatry from the University of León; and, finally, Bernardino Basas García, podiatrist of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA).
