Ferrol, 19th of April 2024. The rector of the University of A Coruña, Ricardo Cao Abad, presides, together with the chief admiral of the Military Arsenal of Ferrol, Vice Admiral Ignacio Frutos Ruíz; with the mayor of Ferrol, José Manuel Rey Varela; with the vice-rector of the Campus of Ferrol and Social Responsibility, Ana Ares Pernas; with the director of the Jorge Juan Chair, the professor of the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Ferrol (EPEF), Sonia Zaragoza Fernández; and more with the professor and disseminator of the University of La Rioja, Eduardo Sáenz de Cabezón; the act of commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Jorge Juan Chair, nothing as a result of a collaboration agreement signed between the Ministry of Defence and the University of A Coruña in March 1993.
During the ceremony, which will begin today, Thursday 19 April, at 19:00 pm, in the Concepción Arenal Assembly Hall on the Industrial Campus of Ferrol, Eduardo Sáenz de Cabezón, PhD in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of La Rioja and presenter of the popular science programme “Órbita Laika” on RTVE’s La2 channel, will give, as the patron of the event to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Jorge Juan Chair, a lecture on the following subject “Á nosa imaxe e semellanza. Unha viaxe ao cerebro da máquina” in which the audience will be invited to reflect on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its implications.
Many of its former directors and other academic and military authorities are expected to attend the event. Admission is unrestricted and free of charge until full capacity is reached.
