The teams G4Z4F4NT4SM4S from Narón and Elementals from Ourense will represent Galicia at the National Grand Final of the FIRST LEGO League.

Ferrol, March 2nd, 2024 – More than 300 young people between 4 and 16 years old participated this Saturday in the tenth edition of the FIRST LEGO League Galicia (FLL Galicia) that took place at the Industrial Campus of Ferrol. The presentations of the Innovation Projects took place in the Faculty of Humanities and Documentation and in the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Ferrol (EPEF) while the Robot Game was played in the Pavilion of Esteiro. On the other hand, the Municipal Auditorium of Ferrol hosted the awards ceremony, which took place in the afternoon and was attended by participants, authorities and families.

After an intense morning of presentations, tests and lots of nervousness, the team G4Z4F4NT4SM4S, from the multidisciplinary school Gazapo from Narón, won the First Prize Ingeniera Soy ao Gañador. On the other hand, the team Elementals, from the Captioma academy in Ourense, won the second prize of the University of A Coruña. Both teams qualified to participate in the FIRST LEGO League NATIONAL GRAND FINAL, which will take place on 16th March in the Paraninfo Building and the Law Faculty of the University of Alicante.

The rector of the University of A Coruña, Ricardo Cao, and the vice-rector of the Ferrol Campus and Social Responsibility, Ana Ares, were in charge of presenting the trophies and diplomas to the two winning teams. However, the awards ceremony was also attended by the Councillor for Education, University and Language Policy of the City Council of Ferrol, Patricia Cons; the director of the Industrial Campus of the University of A Coruña, Marcos Míguez; the Director General of Entrepreneurship and Employment Support of the Xunta de Galicia, Margarita Ardao; the dean of the Official College of Industrial Engineers of Galicia (Icoiig), Julio García Cordoné; the president of Ingenier@Soy, Javier Butragueño; the director of the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Ferrol (EPEF), Vicente Díaz; the representative of Gabadi, José Luis Manso; the head of Marketing of PuntoGal, Cristina Ríos, or the mayoress of the City Council of Narón, Marián Ferreiro, among other authorities.

The University of A Coruña, through the Industrial Campus and the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Ferrol, and in collaboration with ingeniera.soy, organised the tenth edition of FLL Galicia, a championship in which a total of 43 teams participated (25 in the FLL Challenge category, 16 in FLL Explore and 2 in FLL Discover), more than 300 young men and women from all over Galicia and more than 100 volunteers. The event, coordinated by Professor José Antonio Becerra Permuy, could be followed live on FLL Galicia’s You Tube channel.

As every year, the Xunta de Galicia, through the Dirección Xeral de Emprendemento e Apoio ao Emprego – dependent on the Consellaría de Promoción do Emprego e Igualdade -, the Deputación Provincial da Coruña and the Concello de Ferrol collaborated in this initiative. In addition, FLL Galicia is sponsored by the company Gabadi SL, the Ilustre Colexio Oficial de Enxeñeñeiros Industriais de Galicia (ICOIIG),the Colexio Profesional de Enxeñaría Informática de Galicia (CPEIG), Gadis, ERROR!
